ShedSafe is according to ShedSafe.com.au ShedSafe provides an opportunity for Shed suppliers to demonstrate their compliance with the Building Code of Australia via the ShedSafe third party accreditation program. ShedSafe is about sheds meeting the requirements of the Building Code of Australia which has requirements for structural and community safety.
Wind loads on a shed are the main force sheds need to resist, and the wind will always find the weakest point in a shed. Whilst some sheds appear to be robust, all the structural parts of the shed need to be designed correctly to withstand the wind loads.
The ShedSafe program reviews the engineering plans and calculations provided by the consulting engineer engaged by the shed supplier. The review considers the design principles for compliance with the Building Code of Australia.
Furthermore Shedsafe.com.au said… In 2006, following the devastation of the Cyclone Larry in North Queensland Government Regulators and Building Certifiers called on the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) to facilitate design compliance with the Building Code of Australia for steel sheds. Regulators also pointed out that shed failures where not limited to cyclonic areas and was an issue shed for in all regions of Australia.
The ASI responded to regulator requests for design compliance by publishing the Steel Shed Design Guide for Portal Frames Sheds and Garages in 2008. The design guide provides guidance for engineers & designers in the correct application of design codes for steel sheds. The Steel Shed Group has revised this practical guide in line with NCC 2014 to promote excellence in the design of steel sheds and garages, based on building regulations and Australian New Zealand standards, and to encourage uniformity across shed designers and manufacturers. The design guide encourages efficient design of BCA compliant sheds that are able to withstand the weather conditions for which they are designed.
The ShedSafe accreditation program was initiated by the ASI Steel Shed Group as a way to demonstrate the design compliance of shed suppliers.
